Russia launched another large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine on February 26, using drones and missiles. Residential buildings were damaged or destroyed in several regions, fires broke out in Kyiv, and two shopping centers were hit in Zaporizhzhia.
What weapons were used
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, a large number of attack drones were detected over Ukraine shortly after 1 a.m. At 03:52 a.m., Russian forces launched ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv and Kharkiv.
During the night, Russia also deployed strategic bombers Tu-95MS and Tu-160 to fire cruise missiles. Enemy targets were recorded in Ukrainian airspace around 05:25 a.m., primarily heading toward Kyiv.
Kyiv
Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage in three districts: Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Pecherskyi.
The capital was attacked with drones and ballistic missiles. Although cruise missiles were also heading toward the city, no explosions from them were reported.
In Darnytskyi district, windows and doors of an apartment on the first floor of a nine-story building were damaged by a blast wave caused by falling debris. No fire occurred.
In Holosiivskyi district, falling debris ignited garages.
In Pecherskyi district, a private house caught fire.
All fires have been extinguished. No casualties have been reported in Kyiv.
Kharkiv
Shortly after Kyiv, Kharkiv came under attack by drones and ballistic missiles. Preliminary reports indicate that Russia used 17 drones and two missiles. Damage was recorded in four districts:
In Kyivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, apartment buildings and private homes were damaged, overhead lines were severed, and a gas pipeline was hit.
In Saltivskyi district, a private house was destroyed.
In Slobidskyi district, another private house was completely destroyed and caught fire.
One strike hit the Central Park area.
Nine people were initially reported injured in Kharkiv. Including victims from the nearby village of Rai-Olenivka, the total number of injured reached 14, among them one child.
Zaporizhzhia
The city was heavily attacked by drones overnight. Regional governor Ivan Fedorov said 19 apartment buildings, four private houses, and several non-residential buildings were damaged.
Two shopping centers were struck, including an Epitsentr hypermarket. As of the morning, more than 500 buildings in the city were left without heating.
Emergency services reported:
Apartments on the 7th and 8th floors of a nine-story building caught fire;
Another residential building sustained damage to apartments and balconies without further fire;
A shopping center fire covered 60 square meters;
A private house was damaged;
The roof of another shopping center was damaged by a strike.
Initially, six people were reported injured; later, another woman sought medical assistance, bringing the total to seven.
Kryvyi Rih
The city was attacked by drones. Around ten residential buildings were damaged, including a five-story building that sustained severe roof damage. A kindergarten, a fire station, and administrative buildings were also affected. One car burned, and another was damaged.
Two elderly residents — an 89-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman — were injured.
Odesa region
In the early morning, Russian forces struck energy infrastructure in the southern part of the region. An energy facility was damaged. No casualties have been reported.
Poltava region
In the Poltava district, a business facility was damaged by direct strikes and falling debris. In the Lubny district, debris damaged a private household and a power line, leaving 18,209 residential and 1,781 commercial consumers without electricity.
Cherkasy region
Air defense forces shot down one missile and 20 drones. In the Zolotonosha district, debris damaged a former store building, and a fire was quickly extinguished.
Vinnytsia region
Around 20 houses were damaged. One woman was injured and is receiving medical care.
Overall, the attack affected multiple regions across Ukraine, causing widespread destruction and injuries.
