Ukraine and the Russian Federation have agreed to a localized ceasefire to repair a high-voltage transmission line supplying the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
This was reported on Twitter by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“Another local ceasefire, brokered with the mediation of the IAEA, has come into effect, allowing the restoration of the 330 kV backup power supply for the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” the agency said.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi added that demining is underway in the repair area to ensure safe access for technical crews.
Сeasefire around the plant
In recent months, several localized ceasefires have already been declared between Ukraine and Russia, allowing repair teams to restore damaged power lines.
Earlier, Grossi said the agency had begun consultations in January on establishing a temporary ceasefire zone about 10 kilometers from the damaged 330 kV switchyard at the plant.
Due to ongoing hostilities, the last backup 330 kV transmission line was disconnected, leaving the facility dependent on only one functioning 750 kV line.
It is also recalled that on December 30, an important power line repair near the plant was successfully completed. A few days earlier, the IAEA had negotiated a temporary truce that made it possible to begin work on restoring the damaged transmission line.
