Russia launched a large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine using missiles and more than 130 drones, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting nearly all of the incoming targets, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Weapons used in the attack
From 6:00 p.m. on July 12 through the night of July 13, Russia launched:
- 3 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-surface missiles from occupied Crimea;
- 134 drones, including Shahed loitering munitions, jet-powered attack drones, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy UAVs.
The drones were launched from Russia's Kursk, Oryol, and Millerovo regions, as well as occupied areas of Donetsk region and Crimea.
Air defense results
As of 9:30 a.m., Ukrainian forces had neutralized:
- all 3 Kh-59/69 missiles;
- 123 enemy drones operating over northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.
The attack was repelled by fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare forces, drone units, and mobile fire groups.
Damage reported
Despite the high interception rate, authorities confirmed:
- six strike drones hit targets at five locations;
- debris from intercepted targets fell at four additional locations.
Russian forces also carried out another airstrike on Odesa region on Sunday morning. The consequences are still being assessed.
The Air Force warned that the attack was ongoing, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
During the assault, one Geran-2 attack drone crossed into Moldova, crashing and exploding near the village of Copanca. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
Moldova's Ministry of Defense said the drone entered its airspace during Russia's attack on Odesa region.
Earlier in the morning, Russian forces also struck a transport company in Odesa, setting buses on fire and damaging four private homes. Three men, aged 58, 62, and 66, were injured and hospitalized in moderate condition.
