Ukraine president orders security forces to prevent similar attacks after Lviv terror incident

Following the terrorist attack in Lviv, President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Police, and Security Service of Ukraine to take all measures to prevent such crimes in the future.

In a statement shared by Zelensky and the Office of the Prosecutor General, he described the incident as "a cynical and brutal terrorist act," noting that two explosions occurred, the second targeting emergency responders. Twenty-five people were injured, and a 23-year-old female police officer was killed.

Zelensky expressed condolences to the victim’s family and confirmed that all injured are receiving medical care. He noted that the attackers had been recruited via Telegram and emphasized that the operation was orchestrated by Russia.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the 33-year-old suspect, a resident of Kostopol in Rivne region, has been charged under Ukraine’s criminal code for carrying out a terrorist act that resulted in a death and for illegal handling of weapons. Searches at her residences have yielded evidence, and court proceedings are underway to place her in pretrial detention without bail.

The Lviv attacks occurred in the early hours of February 22, with explosives placed in trash bins and detonated as police arrived. Russia is believed to be the organizer behind the operation. Ukrainian authorities located the suspect quickly using CCTV footage.
