Donald Trump says the United States has completely destroyed Iran’s military, including its navy and air force.

According to a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed media reports suggesting U.S. setbacks as “fake news.”

“Fake news is crazy, or just corrupt people! The United States has completely destroyed Iran’s army, including its entire navy and air force, and much more. Their leadership is dead,” he wrote.

He also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen soon and that empty ships are “heading” to the U.S. to load oil.

Ceasefire and negotiations

Earlier this week, Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. During this period, both sides aim to negotiate a broader agreement.

However, Iran reportedly closed the strait again shortly after reopening it. This followed Israeli strikes on Lebanon and, according to reports, Iran’s inability to locate and clear its own naval mines.

Meanwhile, Trump said the U.S. has begun mine-clearing operations in the strait. Reports also indicated that several U.S. Navy vessels briefly entered the area.

These developments come as U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Iranian officials meet in Pakistan for the first round of indirect and direct talks since the ceasefire began.
