The President warned Lukashenko about a “Venezuelan scenario”.
Russia will again try to drag Belarus into its war. According to intelligence, roads are being built in Belarus near the Ukrainian border and artillery positions are being set up, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after a briefing by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to the President, Ukrainian forces are observing attempts by Russian occupation forces to regroup, likely to compensate for a shortage of troops.
“In connection with this, it is becoming increasingly clear why military activity has been increased on the territory of Belarus… We believe that Russia will once again try to drag Belarus into its war. I instructed relevant channels to warn the actual leadership of Belarus about Ukraine’s readiness to defend its land and independence,” the head of state said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that “the nature and consequences of recent events in Venezuela should deter the leadership of Belarus from making mistakes.”
At the same time, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, Andrii Kovalenko, stated that Belarus has apparently been given a task by Russia to keep Ukrainian forces under pressure ahead of Russia’s spring–summer attempts at offensive operations in the east and south.
“In any case, provocations from Belarus will be a mistake for Lukashenko and his regime,” Kovalenko said.
Recall that Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko is launching a draft into the Armed Forces for men up to 27 years old from the reserve officer category. The conscription will apply to men who have not completed compulsory military service and do not have deferment.
