The ceasefire may already be at risk of collapsing due to serious disagreements between the sides.
Speaker of the Iranian parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that the idea of a ceasefire and negotiations with the United States to end the war is unreasonable. He accused Washington of violating three out of ten conditions set by Tehran for ending hostilities, reports Associated Press.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf noted that three points of the 10-point ceasefire proposal have already been breached. He said the first condition — an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and other regions, referenced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif — has not been fulfilled. The second condition, banning any incursions into Iran, was also violated, as a drone allegedly entered Iranian airspace and was shot down in Lar, Fars province. He added that Iran’s right to uranium enrichment, outlined in the sixth point, has also been denied.
According to the report, the ceasefire — in place for less than a day — could already be under threat due to major differences between the parties, each of which claims victory. The remarks came about an hour after the White House announced that Vice President J. D. Vance would lead the American delegation at talks in Islamabad aimed at ending the war.
Vance has previously described the ceasefire with Iran as a “fragile truce” and said it revealed divisions within Iran’s political system. He noted that Tehran’s response varied depending on the government faction: while the foreign minister reacted positively to the plan, others, he claimed, misrepresented the situation, including the extent of U.S. military success and the actual terms of the ceasefire.
