US President Donald Trump said that, following the collapse of talks with Iran, the US Navy is beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, claiming no ships will be allowed to enter or exit.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said negotiations with Iran had gone “well” but failed due to Tehran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
He stated that the US Navy has been ordered to “search and intercept” vessels allegedly paying Iran for passage through the strait, and added that American forces would begin clearing mines in the area.
Trump also warned that any attack on US forces or civilian shipping would be met with overwhelming retaliation, saying Iran would be “finished” if it escalates the conflict.
The move follows reports that US–Iran talks ended without agreement, with disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and control of the strategic waterway remaining unresolved.
