Russia launched overnight attacks on Ukraine’s power infrastructure on December 6, targeting both electricity generation facilities and distribution and transmission systems, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said.

Energy sites in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions were struck. Parts of Odesa, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv regions were left without power.

Repair crews have begun restoring electricity where security conditions allow, the ministry said. Scheduled rolling blackouts are in effect nationwide, with all regions also facing power-consumption limits for industrial users and businesses.

Private energy firm DTEK reported that several of its facilities were hit in multiple regions.

“Equipment has been seriously damaged. We are working to eliminate the consequences of the strikes. This is the sixth attack on the company’s thermal power plants in the past two months,” the company said, adding that its infrastructure has been targeted 210 times since Russia’s full-scale invasion.
