During the night of January 12, Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine, sending 156 UAVs from six different directions. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that air defense units managed to destroy most of them, but 16 drones hit their targets.
According to the Air Force Telegram channel, the assault began at around 18:00 on January 11. Russia used Shahed, Geran, and other types of attack drones, around 110 of which were Shaheds.
The drones were launched from several locations in Russia — Millerovo, Kursk, Orel, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk — as well as from Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea.
Ukraine’s air defenses — including aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare forces, drone units, and mobile fire groups — countered the attack. As of 08:00, they reported that 135 enemy UAVs had been shot down or neutralized across northern, southern, eastern, and central regions of the country.
However, 16 drones struck 11 locations, and debris from downed UAVs fell in two additional areas. The Air Force cautioned that the attack was ongoing and several drones were still in Ukrainian airspace.
Overnight, Odesa was hit again, damaging infrastructure and residential buildings and leaving part of the city without electricity. Kyiv also came under drone attack, with an impact recorded in the Solomianskyi district and debris falling near residential buildings. In the morning, Russian forces carried out further strikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure.
