The peace plan for Ukraine has been reduced from 28 points to 19 following negotiations in Geneva, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the talks. The sources did not specify which points were removed. FT noted that European allies had been most concerned about provisions related to sanctions on Moscow and frozen Russian assets, stressing that such decisions “must be made by the EU”.
According to the report, the Geneva meeting capped a chaotic round of diplomacy over the weekend. While pressuring Ukraine to accept a deal by Thursday, former U.S. President Donald Trump said the plan was not Washington’s final proposal. FT wrote that Senator Marco Rubio initially sought to distance the U.S. from the document, only to state hours later that it had indeed been authored by the United States.
Oleksandr Bevz, adviser to the head of Ukraine’s presidential office, confirmed on Facebook that some points of the plan had been removed and others revised, adding that all of Ukraine’s remarks were taken into account.
“Ukraine discussed each point of the proposed plan with the United States. The 28-point plan, as everyone saw it, no longer exists,” Bevz said.
