Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted the majority of drones during a large-scale overnight Russian attack on April 19, but multiple strikes still caused damage, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
From the evening of April 18 through the morning, Russia launched 236 attack UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmass, and other types. Around 150 of them were Shahed drones. Air defense units — including aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups — were involved in repelling the assault.
Ukrainian forces managed to neutralize 203 drones. However, 32 strike drones hit targets across 18 locations, while debris from downed drones fell in eight additional areas.
The city of Chernihiv was among the hardest hit. The attack caused significant destruction, damaging a lyceum, private homes, and an industrial facility. A 16-year-old boy was killed after being trapped under the rubble of his own home.
