Russia is preparing a new offensive in southeastern Ukraine and plans to deploy strategic reserves to reinforce its forces, according to Ukrainian intelligence cited by journalist Christopher Miller.
The report says Russia may add around 20,000 fresh troops to its contingent, which is currently estimated at about 680,000 personnel inside Ukraine. The alleged goal is to intensify pressure on the Donbas region, with an ambition to seize it by September.
Ukrainian sources also note increased activity of small Russian infantry groups near the northern border in the Sumy region, where they are attempting to capture border villages.
Earlier reports from military sources indicated that Russia’s key objective remains full control of the Donetsk region, with plans to reach its administrative borders by the end of 2026.
