Russia launched 115 attack drones against Ukraine overnight on January 17, with Ukrainian air defence forces destroying 96 of them, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Telegram.
According to the military, from 6:00 p.m. on January 16 until the morning of January 17, Russia attacked using Shahed-type drones, as well as Gerbera, Italmas and other UAVs. The launches came from multiple directions, including Millerovo, Kursk, Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Donetsk in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory. About 75 of the drones were Shaheds.
The aerial assault was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare teams, drone units and mobile fire groups. As of 07:30, air defences had shot down or suppressed 96 enemy drones in northern, southern and eastern regions of the country.
At the same time, 16 strike drones hit 11 locations, while debris from downed UAVs fell at two additional sites.
“The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in Ukrainian airspace. Please follow safety rules,” the Air Force warned.

Russian forces also attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones on the morning of January 17, hitting an infrastructure facility and causing a fire. During the night, an explosion of unknown origin occurred in a high-rise building in Kharkiv, leaving casualties and injured people.
Explosions were also reported in Kyiv, which was under a drone attack. A similar large-scale UAV assault took place overnight on January 16, when Ukrainian air defences destroyed most of the incoming targets.
