Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine overnight on January 11, firing 154 strike UAVs from multiple directions, Ukraine’s Air Force said. Air defenses destroyed the majority of the drones.
According to the Air Force, the attack began at 6:30 p.m. on January 10 and continued into the morning of January 11. Russian forces launched Shahed drones, Gerbera UAVs and other unmanned aircraft from Millerovo, Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from Hvardiiske in Russian-occupied Crimea. About 110 of the drones were Shaheds.
The assault was repelled by fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare systems, drone units and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces. As of 8:00 a.m., air defenses had shot down or suppressed 125 enemy drones across northern, southern and eastern regions of the country.
Authorities recorded impacts from 22 attack drones at 18 locations, as well as debris from downed UAVs falling at two sites. The Air Force warned that the attack was ongoing, with several enemy drones still in Ukrainian airspace, and urged residents to follow safety rules.
The latest strike followed a Russian attack overnight on January 10 involving an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 121 drones, 94 of which were intercepted. Russian forces also struck infrastructure in Kryvyi Rih, leaving parts of the city without power and injuring two people.
In Kharkiv region, the city of Lozova was hit by a mass drone attack on the evening of January 10, damaging residential buildings and critical infrastructure and wounding one person. Explosions were also reported in Kharkiv, where authorities confirmed a strike on an infrastructure facility amid warnings of a missile threat.
