On Saturday, January 17, Russian forces struck the Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv, hitting a critical infrastructure facility. Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the site sustained very serious damage, and a man was wounded in the attack.
“This is not a case where you can just patch things up and move on. These are serious strikes against the system that keeps the city supplied with heat and electricity,” Terekhov stressed. He noted that after each Russian attack it becomes increasingly difficult to restore heat and power supplies.
According to the mayor, the energy sector is currently in a very difficult condition, and every new strike and destruction immediately undermines the city’s ability to stabilize the system. Continuous shelling prevents the energy infrastructure from fully recovering, meaning each subsequent attack will take longer and be harder to repair.
