Russian forces have intensified pressure on the Sumy axis, attempting to expand their control zones in border areas.
This was reported by spokesperson for the Joint Forces Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Viktor Trehubov, during a telethon broadcast.
According to Trehubov, Russian activity has noticeably increased in the Sumy region, particularly in the areas of Hrabovske and north of it.
“There is another infiltration zone there,” he said.
The spokesperson clarified that the advances are limited—around 1 to 1.5 km from the state border. However, he stressed that even such small gains remain concerning, as they indicate an intention by Russian forces to entrench themselves and gradually expand their presence in border areas.
“These are small distances—1 to 1.5 km from the border, but it’s still unpleasant,” Trehubov added.
He also noted that Russian forces allegedly used the so-called “Easter truce” to regroup and transfer equipment to the front lines. According to him, overall combat activity remained consistent, particularly in the Lyman, Kharkiv, and partly Sumy directions.
He added that during the “truce” period, Russian forces attacked a medical vehicle in the Hlukhiv community and also struck an evacuation team in the Zaporizhzhia region, despite the declared ceasefire window.
