Overnight, Russian forces struck critical infrastructure facilities in the Korosten district of Zhytomyr region.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) on Telegram, the attack caused a fire, which rescuers quickly extinguished. Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties.
DSNS sappers inspected the area for explosive hazards, while chemical specialists monitored the air and found no exceedances of permissible levels of hazardous substances. In total, 50 DSNS personnel and 15 units of equipment were involved in responding to the strike.
Recent attacks in Zhytomyr region
In recent weeks, Russian forces have repeatedly targeted critical infrastructure in Zhytomyr, mainly using strike drones along Ukraine’s northern border.
- On the night of January 15, strikes hit facilities in Zhytomyr and Korosten districts.
- On January 13, several critical infrastructure sites in Korosten and Zviahel districts were attacked, with firefighters working to contain and extinguish fires.
- On January 11, Russian attacks caused multiple fires in the region, injuring two workers who sustained moderate injuries and were hospitalized.
