The total value of Russian military equipment destroyed by the SBU’s Alpha unit is even higher.
Fighters of the Security Service of Ukraine’s Special Operations Center “Alpha” have destroyed Russian military hardware worth an estimated $5.5 billion, according to the unit’s official website.
The SBU says Alpha operatives have knocked out every sixth Russian tank. In addition, a strike on ammunition depots in the Russian city of Toropets destroyed half of the occupiers’ entire stockpile of 120-mm mortar rounds.
The unit also noted that Alpha fighters operated FPV drones during Operation “Spiderweb,” in which 41 Russian strategic aviation aircraft were hit, causing damage estimated at $7 billion.
“We destroyed the occupiers everywhere — during the defense of Kyiv, in the Kharkiv operation, while liberating Kherson and Snake Island, defending Sievierodonetsk, Bakhmut and Avdiivka. We also operated in Russia’s Kursk region,” the statement said.
Earlier this month, Major General Yevhen Khmara, head of the SBU’s Alpha unit, was appointed acting chief of the Security Service of Ukraine following the resignation of Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk. Khmara has served in the SBU since before Russia’s full-scale invasion and was awarded the Order of Danylo Halytsky in 2019.
