SBU’s Sea Baby naval drones equipped with enhanced warheads have successfully struck two Russian “shadow fleet” oil tankers in the Black Sea, according to Security Service sources.
The targets were the sanctioned tankers Kairo and Virat, used by Russia to covertly transport oil in circumvention of international sanctions. The operation was conducted jointly by the SBU’s 13th Military Counterintelligence Directorate and the Ukrainian Navy.
The upgraded Sea Baby drones, capable of covering long distances and carrying powerful explosive payloads, inflicted critical damage on both vessels. As a result, the tankers have been effectively put out of service — a significant blow to Russia’s oil logistics and war financing.
At the moment of the attack, the tankers were reportedly empty and heading toward the port of Novorossiysk for loading.
“SBU continues taking active measures to cut off Russia’s financial ability to wage war against Ukraine. These naval drones disabled vessels capable of transporting nearly $70 million worth of oil — ships that were helping the Kremlin bypass global sanctions,” an informed SBU source said.
