Last month, Ukraine reportedly overtook Russia for the first time since the start of the full-scale war in the number of drone attacks, according to ABC News. Both sides, however, significantly increased their use of drones and missiles.
The report cites data from Russia’s Ministry of Defence claiming its air defense systems shot down 7,347 Ukrainian drones in March — an average of about 237 per day. It is noted that this figure refers to intercepted drones, not necessarily the total number launched by Ukraine, which remains unknown.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that more than 6,462 Russian drones and 138 missiles of various types were detected in the same period. Of these, 5,833 drones and 102 missiles were neutralized or intercepted.
Russia reportedly set a new record for the scale of its air attacks in March, launching around 6,600 drones and missiles combined. The most intense strike occurred on March 24, when 948 drones and 34 missiles were launched in a single day.
ABC News suggests that these figures may indicate a shift in the balance of aerial capabilities, with long-term Ukrainian investment in drone and missile development beginning to show results.
