This is not the first time a drone has struck Russian helicopters, but earlier cases involved FPV drones.
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) have, for the first time, downed a Russian Mi-8 helicopter using a “deep strike” drone. The SOF described it as a landmark operation that “changes the rules of the game.” According to the military, the strike took place over the village of Kuteinikove in Russia’s Rostov region. Footage released shows that the Mi-8 was hit by a long-range FP-1 drone.
“Every mission requires creativity, from the technical specifications of the equipment to planning and the skill of the pilots,” the SOF said.
They also emphasized that “this operation has left the enemy with many unanswered questions, the answers to which are known only to the Mi-8 crew—but they will not share them.”
