Ukrainian air defense forces engaged a large-scale Russian drone attack overnight on June 1, with 265 unmanned aerial vehicles launched from multiple directions, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The attack began at 18:00 on May 31 and involved Shahed-type drones, as well as Gerbera and Italmas models, along with Parody decoy drones.
Drones were launched from six directions: Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Gvardeyskoye in temporarily occupied Crimea.
By 08:00 in the morning, air defense units had shot down or suppressed 228 drones across northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.
Despite the large interception rate, 27 drones managed to reach their targets, with impacts recorded at 18 locations. Debris from downed drones was also reported at 12 additional sites.
Officials confirmed that the aerial threat is ongoing, with enemy drones still present in Ukrainian airspace during the morning hours.
The renewed large-scale attacks come amid continued pressure on Ukraine’s air defense systems, with officials repeatedly warning about shortages of interceptor missiles for systems such as Patriot, NASAMS, and IRIS-T.
