A premium electric vehicle showroom operated by Chinese brand Zeekr was destroyed during Russia's combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv on June 2.
Photos released by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine show the aftermath of a massive fire that consumed the building and the vehicles inside. The blaze completely destroyed the showroom and multiple cars.
Zeekr is owned by the Chinese automotive giant Geely. Ukrainian authorities have previously criticized the company for continuing its operations in Russia after the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to Ukrainian officials:
- Geely's founder, Li Shufu, is a member of China's national legislature, while Communist Party structures operate within the company;
- The group maintained and expanded its business presence in Russia after 2022;
- Geely's Russian operations continue to generate tax revenues for the Russian state budget.
As a result, Ukraine's National Agency on Corruption Prevention previously included Geely on its list of companies designated as international sponsors of war, arguing that taxes paid in Russia help finance the country's military activities.
The destruction of the showroom occurred during one of the largest Russian air attacks on Ukraine in recent months, which caused casualties and significant damage in Kyiv and other cities.
