Russia carried out a massive overnight assault on Ukraine on June 2, launching a total of 729 aerial weapons, including 73 missiles of various types and 656 drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The main targets of the attack were Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Poltava regions.
The attack included:
- 8 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles;
- 33 Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
- 27 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 5 Kalibr cruise missiles;
- 656 Shahed attack drones and other UAVs, including Gerbera and Italmas models.
Ukraine's air defenses, aviation units, electronic warfare systems, drone operators, and mobile fire groups were engaged in repelling the strike.
According to preliminary data, Ukrainian forces neutralized 642 targets, including:
- 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
- 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 3 Kalibr cruise missiles;
- 602 drones of various types.
However, authorities confirmed impacts from 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and 33 attack drones at 38 locations. Debris from intercepted drones also fell at 15 separate sites.
The attack caused significant casualties and destruction across several cities. In Kyiv, four people were killed and more than 60 injured, with at least 40 hospitalized. The capital sustained extensive damage.
In Dnipro, officials reported seven deaths and 33 injuries, while residential buildings were among the structures damaged.
In Kharkiv, at least 15 people were injured as a result of the strikes.
