The number of people injured in Russia’s massive attack on Kyiv has increased to 79, according to the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko.
As of noon, authorities had also confirmed six fatalities in the capital. Rescue operations are still ongoing at several locations, meaning the casualty toll could continue to rise.
Residential buildings, administrative facilities, and medical institutions were damaged across multiple districts of Kyiv. A car dealership selling vehicles from Chinese electric car brand Zeekr was completely destroyed by fire.
Most of the fires caused by the attack have already been extinguished.
Among the injured are three children aged 3, 11, and 17.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Kyiv was the primary target of the overnight assault. Russia reportedly launched around 70 missiles and nearly 700 drones. While air defenses intercepted most of the incoming threats, dozens of ballistic missiles reached their targets, highlighting the difficulty of defending against such weapons.
Russia also struck a key Naftogaz facility in the Kharkiv region. The attack began with drones and was later followed by missile strikes.
Officials also noted an increased use of 3M22 Zircon missiles during the assault. These hypersonic weapons remain particularly challenging for air defense systems, as not all platforms are capable of intercepting them.
