On the night of March 28, Russia attacked Ukraine with 172 strike drones launched from seven directions. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the UAVs.
According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, from 18:00 on April 1 to the morning of April 2, Russian forces deployed 172 attack drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types, from Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), as well as temporarily occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.
Around 120 of the drones were Shahed-type. The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, unmanned units, and mobile fire groups.
As of 08:00, Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 147 drones across the north, south, and east of the country.
At the same time, 22 drones struck targets at 12 locations, while debris from intercepted UAVs fell in eight locations.
The Air Force warned that the attack was ongoing, with several enemy drones still in Ukrainian airspace.
Earlier, on April 1, Ukrainian defenses destroyed or suppressed 345 drones during a massive daytime attack. In total, more than 700 UAVs were launched over the course of the day.
Western regions of Ukraine were the main target, where strikes caused large-scale power outages and fires. In the Cherkasy Oblast, four people were killed in an open area.
The city of Nikopol also came under fire, with Russian forces using artillery and FPV drones. Ten civilians were injured, including one woman in serious condition.
Later in the evening of April 1, Russia struck a residential building in Kharkiv with a Molniya kamikaze drone, leaving several people injured.
