A fire broke out on the morning of May 27 at the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant in Taganrog, Russia’s Rostov region, following what local authorities described as a missile attack. Russian air defenses reportedly attempted to intercept the strike, but a fire was later confirmed in the area where the aviation facility is located.
According to ASTRA and OSINT analysts, smoke was seen rising directly from the territory of the aircraft repair plant. Residents had earlier reported multiple explosions across the city. The facility is located roughly 170 kilometers from the front line in Ukraine.
Regional governor Yuri Slyusar claimed Russian air defense systems shot down a missile over Taganrog, adding that falling debris caused vehicles to catch fire on Tsiolkovsky Street — the same street where the 325th plant is situated.
The plant is considered strategically important for Russia’s military logistics. It is reportedly the country’s main enterprise for major repairs and modernization of An-12 and An-72 military transport aircraft used to move ammunition and personnel. The facility is also linked to servicing components for Il-76 heavy transport planes and A-50 airborne radar aircraft.
The site operates alongside the Beriev Taganrog Aviation Scientific-Technical Complex, another major defense aviation enterprise previously targeted in reported strikes. In 2025, Ukrainian Neptune missiles and drones reportedly damaged facilities there, including an A-60 aircraft associated with experimental laser weapons systems.
At the time of reporting, there was no confirmed information about casualties or the full extent of damage at the plant.
