The Third Army Corps of Ukraine has carried out a series of strikes against Russian logistics infrastructure in temporarily occupied parts of the Luhansk region, with operations reportedly extending as far as the Izvarino border checkpoint.
According to the corps, the operation marks the beginning of efforts to disrupt Russian logistical routes in Luhansk and eastern Slobozhanshchyna.
Military officials said Ukrainian drones operated at distances of more than 205 kilometers deep into enemy-held territory. One of the farthest targets included the area near the Izvarino checkpoint on the Russian border.
During the operation, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck Russian armored vehicles and ammunition depots.
Andrii Biletskyi, commander of the Third Army Corps, stated that the operation was a response to Russian claims of full control over the Luhansk region.
“In response to enemy statements about the complete occupation of Luhansk region, we announce an operation to control logistical routes in Luhansk and eastern Slobozhanshchyna. Luhansk, Starobilsk, Alchevsk, Brianka, and Kadiivka are now under UAV control of the Third Army Corps,” he said.
The corps also reported that the operation was planned and led by the commander of a strike UAV platoon with the call sign “Skhid,” a native of Luhansk region and a Hero of Ukraine.
According to the military, he participated in the defense of besieged Mariupol in 2022 and later independently returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory after the city’s defense ended, for which he received one of the country’s highest state honors.
Additionally, in late May, Ukrainian Air Force forces reportedly struck a Russian command post and communications hub in temporarily occupied Luhansk region using Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
The General Staff of Ukraine confirmed that the target was successfully hit.
