Commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, said the impact of the overnight strike on the Russian airfield in Taganrog was broader than initially reported.
According to him, during the operation carried out on the night of May 30, Ukrainian drone units hit and destroyed an Iskander operational-tactical missile system and two Tu-142 aircraft at the military airfield.
The Tu-142 is a long-range anti-submarine aircraft developed from a strategic bomber platform, while the Iskander is a Russian ground-to-ground missile system used for tactical strikes. Brovdi stated that the Iskander system was struck at a launch position on the outskirts of Taganrog in Russia’s Rostov region.
He added that “the result was not limited to the previously announced targets,” suggesting additional damage occurred during the operation.
Earlier, local Russian authorities reported drone activity in the Taganrog area, followed by fires at a port facility involving a tanker, a fuel storage tank, and an administrative building. Separate reports also indicated strikes on oil infrastructure in Armavir and in occupied Feodosia.
